a poem
"Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.
"Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.
"Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo
The shopping's not done
and there's nothing for stew
"And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.
"The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."
- Ruth Hulbert Hamilton
i've heard the last stanza of this poem for years, but i never knew who said it (i've always seen it attributed to "anon, who seems to do a lot of work :),but a friend of mine just posted it on facebook, so i thought i'd pass it forward and give the author credit.

10 favorite things
1) Paul (cheesy, but oh, so true) (yes both pics are old, but they're w/& w/o beard)

5) going to the zoo! i love my zoo membership!
6) my new beco, it's not this pattern, mine's dragons, but it's the most comfortable baby-carrier ever, and it puts rayna right to sleep.

7) libraries, what a brilliant invention, i love to read, but i hate buying books, i'd much rather borrow them, especially when i don't know if i like them yet--cause i haven't read them, and especially knowing there aren't tons of books i want to read twice, so why buy them?
8)rocks, all shapes, sizes and colors, but hard rocks are the best :)
9)walking, just getting out of the house each day
10)baking: bread, pretzles, cookies, pies, dinner--okay that's usually cooking, that's in here too, even granola bars

Easter
(i know, i know, everyone else posted their easter stuff last week, but hey, at least i'm getting them up :)

Afton hunting eggs at aunt dorothy's (and uncle steven's) house! we really had a blast and loved seeing all the cousins and family there, thanks!
rayna also had a blast playing with eggs, though the only one she was allowed to eat was specially stuffed from grandma with pretzles, though i'm pretty sure someone snuck her a little candy just the same ;) unfortunately, i didn't get any pictures of her on saturday at the egg hunt...

and here's my beautiful girls with their daddy on Easter Sunday. i couldn't get any good pics with both girls, but i loved these :)

birthdays
afton's been asking daily (for probably a month now) about everyone's birthdays (when's daddy's bitday? grandma williamson's, missy's, miss teresa's, and just about everyone else that she knows). she's pretty good about remembering the months, though i still think she has no clue what they mean. today she had a fun breakthrough though.
"when's my bitday?"
--september
"oh, set-ember... and naomi's set-ember too"
--no, naomi's birthday is december, afton's is September, naomi's is December
"ooooh, attin's bitday SEPTEMBER, naomi's bitday D-September"
